FAQ for Schneider Electric System Integrator Packages

Industrial automation is a technology we use in order to reduce human activities and to make machines or industrial processes to work automatically. By doing so we can reduce cost as well as improve productivity and quality in a company. PLC, known as Programmable Logic Controller is the base controller for automation.

Then we have monitoring software like SCADA, Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition System which we can use to design a particular area of control and it is mainly used to data acquisition and supervisory control. Along with that Field devices like sensors, transducers etc. can also be used to implement full automation.

We have mainly three types of courses.

a.) A three and a half months full course which is known as Post Graduate Diploma in Industrial Automation (PGDIA) which covers 7 brands of PLCs (SIEMENS, Allen Bradley, ABB, Schneider Electric, Omron, Delta, GE Fanuc), 5 SCADAs (Intouch, Factory Talkview, WinCC, Vijeo Citect and iFix), VFD, HMI, MCC Panel wiring and designing, PAC
(Programmable Automation Controller), P&FI and DCS (Distributed Control System)

b.) The next course is a two months course – Advanced Diploma in Industrial Automation (ADIA) with 6 PLCs, 3 SCADAs, VFD, HMI, MCC Panel, P&FI and DCS can also be included.

C.) The third is the One-month course Certified Automation Engineering (CAE) with 6 PLCs, 2 SCADAs, VFD, P&FI.

SMEC, one of India’s first worldwide EPC contractor company globally recognized for its distinctive services specifically in Marine & Industrial Automation, Instrumentation, Electrical, Pneumatics, Hydraulics and Mechanical sectors which started its journey in 2001. It has a R&D and training division SMEClabs which caters job-oriented training in various domains which helps an aspiring engineer /fresher or professionals to get a jump start to their career.

Yes of course. Being a mechanical engineer, most of the people say that industrial automation is related to electrical, instrumentation electronics field, but in reality, even mechanical domain sectors are also using automation for their manufacturing units, factories, piping plants as well as rig areas.

Valves all are controlled by PLC only and plants can be monitored using SCADA. An automation engineer with a mechanical background will always be an advantage for factory/manufacturing units.

In most of the countries especially European and western countries, you can see that more mechanical engineers work in Industrial Automation field as there more factories/manufacturing units etc. We will cover from basics only so that irrelevant of the branch you completed you can choose automation as your career. Actually, automation is a combination of electrical, electronics, mechanical, hydraulics and instrumentation.

SMEC has over 21 years of experience in Marine and Industrial Automation. With field experienced service engineers as trainers, students or working professionals get a real time knowledge with applications in industrial automation. We have a syllabus which cover world class automation applications including IIOT also.

As we have three different types of courses, PGDIA DCS course is a 3.5 months course with an actual fee of 60000 INR and the discounted price due to student scholarship we offer will be INR 45000 for candidates from India.

The fee for international candidates will be different which can be discussed with our academic counsellors.

ADIA DCS is a 2.5 months course with a standard fee of 35000 INR and discounted fee of 30000 INR and CAE course is a one-month course with a standard fee of 25000 INR and reduced fee of 20000 INR.

In this PGDIA alone will be 40000 INR and ADIA alone without DCS will be 27000 INR. Fee for online classes may have slight variation.

Kindly note that fee for international candidates will be entirely different.

Yes, we have crash course or customized course option in which you can choose the required PLC and SCADA. Normally for a branded PLC and a SCADA with interfacing procedure, it will come approx. 15000 INR minimum. For other contents also we can finalize fee based on the contents.

Yes, you can learn PLC alone. But if you want to know complete industrial automation then you need to learn SCADA and interfacing with PLC-SCADA also. If you are experienced then then it will be not be a problem. But we offer only as a package which has a PLC and a SCADA.

DCS stands for Distributed Control System is an advanced version of PLC. DCS are normally implemented in huge plants/refineries/oil and gas industries only as it can handle multiple number of input/outputs at the same and processing speed will be faster. It uses an architecture where the monitoring is centralized and control will be distributed. It can control and monitor multiple number of PLCs in a plant which is used for different processes.

DCS having in built software both for controller programming as well as SCADA designing. Presently we provide training in Honeywell C 300 DCS from basic to advanced level.

We provide training in Honeywell C 300 DCS from basic to advanced level.

We are using FBD (Functional Block Diagram) language in DCS.

Yes, after completing course we are providing NSDC accredited global certification. Our courses are also accredited by TUV Rheinland Germany. Thus, certificate is life time valid and well recognized globally.

Since SMEC is having international presence as its branches are spread across the globe due to its marine and industrial services apart from training, normally there is no need for any attestation as our certificate is well recognized globally. In some countries, you can get it attested through the respective agencies as  attestation is mandatory there.

We are a system integrator of Schneider Electric corporation, MMC Europe, VAF instruments, Kangrim China, STX Norway, Reliance, Rolls Royce etc and also, we do major marine service for ONGC, Indian Navy, BARC, HPCL, BPCL, Shipyards and ports in India and abroad.

Well, if is for a fresher it would be slightly inconvenient as he/she needs to start from the basics and a strong base is very important in this field to have elevated career. But still, we have fast track option which can be utilized to complete the course much faster by spending more hours per day.

But we would recommend freshers to go for normal duration to have a better understanding of the subject in order to attain the necessary skill set to work in this Industry. As far as an experienced candidate is concerned, it will all depend on his/her grasping power. But one month, is a very short duration for the main course.

It is recommended to go for lower packages to complete successfully.

If you compare both the courses, contents will be slightly advanced for PGDIA as it is having a complete set of contents in Industrial automation. As a fresher I will suggest you to go for PGDIA. In case your budget is not fitting, you can choose ADIA now and there is an option to upgrade to PGDIA in the future.

As a fresher we can expect around 15K to 22K on average. It may be below 18K depending on the company and the vacancy available. In this field as a fresher, you should look for exposure and experience initially and learn the skill to get a grip in this field. This is one field where you cannot expect and initially salary like IT. But as you gain experience, your demand and salary go up high and sky is the limit. After one year of experience you are in demand in this industry and scope in unimaginable.

For experienced persons, based on their previous salary company will fix salary. Good automation skill is what companies needed. After completing automation course, we will be capable of meeting such requirements.

In PLC we have serial communication under RS- 232/RS485.We also have Modbus TCP/IP protocol, Profibus Communication and ethernet communication. So, you can learn what industries are using with hands on real-time practice.

No, function wise it looks almost same but HMI same but SCADA is a superior software having more functions as well as capacity whereas HMI is a hardware, we are using in field directly. SCADA can be used for monitoring and supervisory control from a SCADA operator room only.

HMI we can be used directly in field. For an automation engineer, he should know both HMI as well as SCADA.

In automation course we have hardware, software and field devices. So, field devices like sensors, transducers, transmitters etc. will be used to monitor input analog and digital signals.

Therefore, normally in this course we will give a peripheral idea about instrumentation devices connection and all. So, it is not compulsory to learn instrumentation prior to start automation course.

As an electrical graduate, you can choose industrial automation course to get a jump start your career in automation sector. Because already automation contains electrical devices like motors, relays, contactors etc in big MCC panel designing and controlling. Both electrical as well as electronic concepts are combined with industrial automation.
